‘CHASING THE RAINBOW’ PROJECT

group21Adjacent to the kitchen is an enhanced garden (The Garden of St. Francis of Assisi), which now provides an assortment of fruits and vegetables to sustain The Rainbow Kitchen. The ‘Chasing the Rainbow’ Project, was headed by participants of this year’s Leadership Victoria cohort, and they increased the garden’s capacity to grow and serve local, organically grown produce to the community through the Rainbow Kitchen using a sustainable community-based methodology.

The project involved renovating the garden area, installing a new micro irrigation system, and installing a new composting unit.

ABOUT THE TEAM

logo_teamlbpartoflvAs participants of the year-long Leadership Victoria program, our team’s objective was to look for a community partner that we could offer our services to. Our team was made up of six, skilled and enthusiastic volunteers ranging from diverse backgrounds, working for private and public corporations. On January 2009, our team officially partnered with St. Saviour’s Church to help enhance The Rainbow Kitchen’s garden.

It was in June 2009 that the project was completed.
